A steep hillside garden full of rocks and invasive brambles was transformed into a low maintenance garden filled with Mediterranean and native plants. In the main garden bed, green dwarf olive shrubs and asparagus ferns provide a stable backdrop and stark contrast to the deep purple of the Berbers and the shocking pink of the cordylines. The blooms of the Coastal Gem grevillea ties it all together. The rocks were dug out of the garden and used to anchor the garden. Along the side garden Orange Rocket berberis provide color while Moonlight greveillea provide movement and texture. The shaded side garden, visible from the window at the top of the interior staircase, is planted with native sword ferns and baby’s tear ground cover to create a soothing green hued vista. Terra cotta pots that had been left empty for years are now filled with succulents that will thrive and add color to the space. Jasmine will continue to creep along the fence line to provide beauty, scent, and privacy.
